Before You Start

Considering a Transition from Classic to Cloud?

Before transitioning away from iClicker Classic, learn more about iClicker Cloud and make sure your campus can support it.

Understand Key Differences in iClicker Cloud

There’s a lot in iClicker Cloud that will feel familiar to iClicker Classic instructors. However, there are also some key differences that could become pain points later on if instructors expect iClicker Cloud to function exactly the same as iClicker Classic. Check out our visual transition guide for switching from iClicker Classic to iClicker Cloud. You’ll have additional opportunities to get trained on iClicker Cloud later in the implementation process, so you can be prepared to explain these differences to your faculty.

Complete a Security Review

While iClicker Classic stores data locally on an instructor’s computer, iClicker Cloud stores class data on secure servers (located in Canada for Canadian institutions, and in the U.S. for all other institutions). For this reason, most campuses work with Macmillan’s legal and security teams to complete a full security review before starting support for iClicker Cloud. Please contact your iClicker representative to initiate this process. You may also wish to review iClicker’s privacy policy and accessibility information.

Evaluate Your Campus Wifi

Before transitioning your campus to iClicker Cloud, we recommend evaluating your campus wifi infrastructure to ensure it can support iClicker Cloud and the iClicker student app. iClicker Cloud and the iClicker student app are regularly used in large lecture halls with 500 students, but they do require a robust wifi connection, even if you continue to support physical remotes at your institution. Every campus wifi network and access point is different; some campuses have only a handful of rooms or buildings that can support iClicker Cloud and iClicker student app usage. A general best practice is to make sure a classroom has enough access points to handle 3 times as many devices as the number of students present in the class. Learn more.
